Simple. Pink. ISO 400

So far I've been happy with wingin' it behind the camera... sure, I shoot in manual but I still have a lot to learn and I'm ready to step it up so I would really appreciate constructive criticism!
Thanks!

Natural

I don't know how he does it exactly,
he just strikes poses that are so natural...
and of course those blue eyes just melt my heart!

This or That Thursday

Last week I did a mini session with my own little cutie and yes, that's when I got the photo for my new header!

I don't know. Maybe it's just me, but I think she pretty adorable!

Dear Kitty Paw...

What do you get when you ask a 3 year old about her feelings?
The truth.

Down on the Farm

Well, sort of.
My oldest sister came over with her kiddos and we spent the day playing with the bunnies and chickens
(we had spicy chicken taco soup for lunch but we didn't tell the chickens)
and, thanks to some wonderful art supplies from my mom, we enjoyed alla prima painting outside!
"Put my picture on your blog, Abi!"

This little guy was fascinated by the remote control cars- I bet he was thinking "just wait 'till I get my hands on you!"

Yes. They are adorable. Might as well admit it :)

I think he likes it!

It was a delightful day and we can't wait 'till they get a farm too!

Striking Hunter

This fellow is probably the #1 reason we chose not to let our chickens free range...
This morning as I opened the door of the chicken house he swooped down so fast he made my head spin. I think he was surprised to find that his breakfast was encased in chicken wire because he hit the ground pretty hard beside me and he still looks a little ruffled here.
 f/6.3, 1/250s, ISO 500, 85mm (I got pretty close!)

He is not giving up so easily and he has been pacing outside the coop on foot, waiting for the juicy little biddies to come out of hiding...
My kids suddenly view hawks differently from before. My oldest son used to point to the sky and ask "Vultured or Hawk?" (yes, he really calls them 'vultureds') and if I answered "It's a Hawk!" he would get all excited and listen for the distinctive scream.
But this morning that same son called out "You can't eat our chickens, you big old meanie!" I'm proud of him for being protective of our little flock but I wonder how we are going to explain that our chickens are
dual purpose....

La Vie En Rose

It's turned cold outside...
but I don't feel cold.

When is a weed not a weed?

When your two year old son gives you one for the first time and says "Oooo ou!" (for you)!
That's when a weed is so much more than a weed- it represents little boy love and all that is wonderful!

Scavenger Hunt

1. Strike a Pose
Gosh, if I had known they would strike such a cute pose today I would have tidied them up a bit before going outside to play!
They were all riding a little tricycle and I said "Hey kiddos! Can you say 'one.. two... three?!'"  My littlest guy laughed, then he hopped down and pretended to take a photo just like me! He even said "two, eee" as if he was counting :)
this is what he did...

3. Hobby
That's right! Our new hobby involves ten, 10 week old Buff Orpingtons!
Confession: this photo was actually taken by my three year old- granted, I had everything set up and I was holding the camera with her, but she pressed the shutter!

4. Shiny

Delicious Solitude

It was a gorgeous, sunny day. Cool and crisp.
The house was quiet and I felt excitement as I began to hunt for something to fill the word prompt:

"Stand Alone."

I wanted something with strong contrast.
Maybe a silhouette.
Definitely something striking.

As I looked around the house I thought to myself let's see... I'm at home. At nap time. What fits...?
I look out the window and see a lonesome moth. Not exactly a striking figure but I'm easily distracted.

I change to a macro lens. I think to myself hmm, this little fellow is standing alone in the middle of winter. I begin to wax eloquent in my mind about this beautiful moth but as I glance down at my settings I'm startled by a thud on the window pane. I look up just in time to see a bird flying away, leaving my window empty.

I realize that I am the one standing alone.
